Municipal Sports Park, Tessenderlo

The Municipal Sports Park in the town of Tessenderlo used to be the stadium of the local pride: VV Looi Sport

This local team, founded in 1924, reached the national leagues in 1966 and would remain there ’till 1996 when the club folded. Between 1973 and 1985 and again from 1988 till 1992 the black and whites even made it to the Third division.

However barely 5 years after their last season in the third division the team folded and the stadium fell without an occupant.

It would take several years before a new team finally made the Sports Park their home. This new team started off as Heidebloem VV and started merger talks with two other teams from Tessenderlo: Penarol Engsbergen and Schoot Sport. Awaiting the conclusion of these talks Heidebloem already changed their name to THES Sport where the acronym THES stands for the four villages the team would represent: Tessenderlo, Hulst, Engsbergen and Schoot. The clubs however could not reach an agreement and THES Sport would move on its own to the deserted Sports Park.

It turned out to be a wise decision for THES. Where Schoot Sport folded in 2002, Penarol finally had to agree to the merger in 2015.

THES Sport themselves had been doing well for themselves: they promoted to the Limburg Regional Division One in 2003 and to the National 4th Division in 2005. In 2009 however they relegated back to the Regional Division One where they have been playing since.
