Stade Communal d’Aubel, Aubel

Aubel FC was founded in 1939 and reached its zenith at the end of the 1980 ‘s. In 1987 they won their Fourth Division and the Liégois were promoted to the Third National Division.

It would bring no luck to Les Herbagers, in the first season they managed to escape the drop but in their second season they were relegated and started a free fall that ended in the Second Provincial Division.

The Green-and-whites, in the meantime, and after a championship in 2006-2007, again moved up to the Liège first Provincial Division.

The stade communal of Aubel lies in the shadow of the modern sports hall on the other side of the Impasse du Stade. The main pitch with its old stand and tangle of small buildings does not give the impression that it was ever used for football on a national level. The fact that the C-pitch serves as additional parking on market days is also a clear indication that practicality is chosen over professionalism.

But maybe it does make sense that a place known for its wonderful local dishes gives priority to the weekly market over its football team.
